About the project
Energy in Steel gathers explanations and calculation tools on energy in steelmaking: combustion, process gases, steam, electricity, utilities and energy efficiency. The aim is to make practical know-how, usually locked in internal handouts and closed courses, available in several languages.
The content is written by Eder Quental and José Geraldo da Silva Moreira, engineers with long careers in energy and utilities management in steelmaking, ABM award winners and authors of dozens of technical papers. Meet them on the Authors page.
How the tools are made
Every calculator shows its model and the calculation step by step. Where possible, results are compared with reference spreadsheets and operating data, and the difference found is reported on the page itself. Calculations run entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent to a server.
